About Dr.LawMom
I am officially known as Katherine T. Wallace, Ph.D. To some, I am Dr. Candi. There is no “typical” African American success story, and mine is typical of that. I grew up in South Central L.A.; autoworker Dad and domestic worker Mom. My studies led me to Mexico,Vienna, Paris and Bonn, Stanford, Harvard and Georgetown Law. From the mid to late eighties, I changed my career from academics to marriage, motherhood and law. By the end of law school, I was the mother of a son and two daughters and had become an eclectic home schooler. With no school (or births) outside our home, all three kids have gone on to great colleges, with the youngest leaving this Fall. I am a dedicated re-nester, because – well – what is an empty nest, really? My passions are family, education, the law, fitness, nutrition, and home renovation. After 21 years, I am deeply in love with my husband, and we love a 4 year old Norwegian Elkhound named Nemo.
I am fluent in German, French and Spanish and read Italian and Portuguese, as well. I practice law in the District of Columbia. I have practiced Big Law, small law, freelance and self-representation. I am a zealous civil litigator, especially civil rights, and I love appeals. My life is rich and interesting with its share of pitfalls. I am interested in learning and sharing what it has to teach.
Wow, reading your bio makes me feel lazy! I really gotta “get up on it”!
